Notes: The experimental locomotive OR18-01 (Oktyabr'skaya Revolyutsiya - October Revolution, 18-tonne axle-loading) led to the production LV (L, Voroshilovgrad type), which was the last mass-produced Soviet steam freight design. The LV was basically a 2-10-2 version of the L with the same coupled weight of about 91 tonnes, the same boiler pressure and many common parts including cylinders and driving wheels. But it also incorporated such important design changes as a larger grate and heating surface, increased superheating, a feed-water heater and weight-redistribution apparatus for the rear truck to increase adhesion. Among other modern features were bar frames, roller bearings, a rocking-grate and a mechanical stoker. Nonetheless, construction was abruptly halted in 1956 in favour of the TE3 diesel , and with dieselisation and electrification the class was destined to have a short service life: less than two dozen were normally active during the 1970's and 1980's, and withdrawals began in earnest in 1985.
